Proposed work
To perform two 3D SPH simulations of machining (turning), one with a normal isotropic hardening material model and one with a kinematic hardening material model.
Subtasks: Compare the readiness level of SPH simulation techniques in ABAQUS and LS-Dyna.

Background
SPH is mainly used for simulation of fluid flows, but in later years the simulation technique has been applied to solid materials with good results. Specifically this is true in machining simulations where the plastic deformations are significant and standard FEanalyses cannot cope with the severe element distortions involved. SPH is an upcoming technique and can be applied to different problems where plastic deformations are significant, e.g. machining, forging, extrusion, different types of plastic joining, etc.
Swerea KIMAB is working as an interim stage between academia and industry and needs to keep track of all possible simulation techniques to be able to serve our industrial members.
